Volunteer Spotlight: Dominic Rousset
“If there is one phrase I live by within this industry it would be ‘For the people’ because that’s ultimately who we do it for,” said Dominic Rousset, 18. He has been volunteering with Southampton Fire Company for about a year now and works as an automotive mechanic.
Wanting to be there for people on their worst days, Dominic signed up to serve and protect his community. He will graduate from the Bucks County Fire School with his Firefighter I in September.
“Nothing makes me happier than selflessly helping others,” said Dominic. “Not everyone is willing to work for free, however volunteering for free makes it far more enjoyable. There’s no competition or laziness, just dedicated and supportive volunteers who will drop anything, at any time, for anyone.”
Dominic believes everyone should have the opportunity to experience a place like Southampton Fire Company.
“More people should join Southampton because I personally think we are very supportive to the younger and newer members. Any questions that I’ve ever had were always answered or explained to me, and we never give up on anyone,” said Dominic. “Here at Southampton, we’re all like a family who will never leave each other behind. It’s something more than great and I would recommend this fire company to anyone.”
Throughout the trainings at the fire company and in the county, Dominic says, “I have learned how to find peace outside of my comfort zone and also learned how fortunate I am to sustain the requirements of the job.”
No prior experience is required to volunteer with Southampton Fire Company. Training and gear are provided for firefighter and junior firefighting positions, starting at age 14 and up.
