Volunteer Spotight: Logan Hanefeld

Inspired by his dad, Logan Hanefeld joined Southampton Fire Company at 14 years old as a junior firefighter.

“Watching my dad grow from Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief to Deputy Chief, he became my role model and I want to be where he is now one day,” said Logan, who has been volunteering for five years.

In addition to responding to calls as a firefighter, he serves on four committees: Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), Fire Prevention, Training, and Recruitment and Retention.

“What I enjoy the most is working with this group of guys and girls – it’s the best. It feels like family,” said Logan.

Joining at a young age, Logan said the volunteer fire service helps teens stay busy in a positive way and learn a lot of new skills.

“It will give them a good point of view of what emergency services is like,” he said, and encourages new volunteers to, “Make connections and don’t be afraid to reach out if you have questions.”

When Logan isn’t volunteering, he works as an assembly worker at Reliable Equipment.
